Oracle has begun a partnership with Google to make Google's specialized AI chips, Tensor Processing Units (TPU), available through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This marks the first time that Google's TPU chips are offered by another major cloud provider. The arrangement will provide enterprise customers with an additional option to the graphics processors (GPU) that otherwise dominate the AI computing market. Unlike traditional GPUs, TPU chips are specifically developed for machine learning and can provide better energy efficiency and performance for certain types of AI tasks. Oracle plans to start offering Google's TPU chips sometime in 2027. Details regarding pricing, configurations, or an exact launch date are currently unavailable.
