Meta raises 3.3 trillion baht in funding with AMD, NVIDIA, Broadcom investment
Meta has announced a significant fundraising round totaling 3.3 trillion baht, approximately 97.5 billion dollars, aimed at investing in AI infrastructure, developing the Muse model, and supporting its existing social app business. This fundraising effort is divided into two parts: the issuance of new stock valued at a total of 37.5 billion dollars, which includes 25 billion dollars in Class C Common Stock and 12.5 billion dollars in Preferred Stock. Additionally, Meta plans to sell previously announced shares, specifically Class A Common Stock, valued at 60 billion dollars on the market.
The initial funding round has attracted three business partners, all chip manufacturers: NVIDIA, AMD, and Broadcom, who will collectively invest 5 billion dollars, with NVIDIA contributing 3 billion dollars and the other two each investing 1 billion dollars. This investment comes with the condition that Meta must become a customer purchasing AI processing chips from all three companies.
The involvement of chip companies in investing in AI firms is not new, with NVIDIA having a long list of investments in similar ventures. However, it has faced criticism for potentially engaging in circular financing, where investments in AI companies are exchanged for long-term agreements to purchase chips, which could inflate the value of their own stocks further.
