IDC Frontier announced on October 8 that recovering customer data stored in part of East Japan Region 1 has become difficult due to unauthorized access issues. The incident occurred around 3:40 AM on October 7, when the company confirmed that a ransomware attack by a third party caused virtual servers in four zones of the IDCF Cloud's East Japan Region 1 to stop functioning. A total of 495 entities, including businesses and local governments, are affected by this incident.

To prevent secondary damage and information leaks, the company has isolated the affected region from its network and halted the management console. Affected customers are being instructed to recover their data from backups they possess. Currently, investigations are ongoing to determine whether any data was exfiltrated and to uncover the details of the intrusion pathway.

No unauthorized access has been detected in other regions, but the company continues to keep the management console inactive to ensure safety. There is no indication of when recovery will begin, and impacted companies are advised to verify the availability of their own backups and recovery plans.
