Cryptocurrency exchange Binance experienced a cyberattack on Thursday that resulted in the loss of six point three billion United States dollars in digital assets. The incident stands as the largest theft in the history of the sector according to security experts who attribute the operation to North Korea. Reports indicate the entire exploit was executed within a twenty minute window.

Initial investigations suggested the breach originated from a vulnerability in a single engineer computer that granted unauthorized access for fund withdrawal. Subsequent analysis revealed that multiple additional access points were compromised during the event. Approximately three billion United States dollars of the stolen value has been frozen while the company works to recover the remaining balance.

Binance stated it would utilize its own reserves to cover the financial losses caused by the incident. The platform temporarily suspended withdrawals for forty eight hours as a preventive measure while confirming that other services continue to operate normally. The company affirmed that client funds remain secure and noted compliance with central bank requirements regarding asset segregation in offline storage systems.
