Amazon Launches Alexa+ in India for Free

Amazon has launched its voice assistant Alexa+ in India, marking a significant update to the existing Alexa after nearly eight years. The new version is designed to be smarter, capable of understanding natural conversations and handling complex requests more effectively than its predecessor.

Initially, Alexa+ is available for free in India, supporting both Hindi and Hinglish languages at launch. Amazon has indicated plans to add support for additional languages in the future. Notably, India is the first country where Alexa+ has been integrated with Amazon's Quick-Commerce platform, Amazon Now.

According to Amazon, all users in India can access Alexa+ for free starting today, with no subscription required during the early access phase. After this phase ends, Prime members will continue to have access to Alexa+ without any additional fees.

A key feature of Alexa+ is its language support, allowing it to understand and respond to users in Hindi and Hinglish. Amazon has confirmed that more languages will be supported in upcoming updates.

The integration of Alexa+ with Amazon Now allows users to inform the assistant of items they need during conversations, which can then be added to their Amazon Now cart. However, users must provide voice confirmation for finalizing orders.

Alexa+ is designed for more natural conversations, enabling the assistant to understand the context of previous requests made by the user in a single conversation. This reduces the need for users to repeat information, enhancing the overall interaction. Additionally, Alexa+ can remember user preferences and important details to personalize future conversations.

Beyond answering questions, Alexa+ can control compatible smart home devices and assist with various tasks on supported services. The new Alexa+ will be available on Amazon's latest consumer hardware, including the new Fire and Echo devices.
