Wolda Smart Power Strip Hacked, Devices Shut Down
On October 8, 2026, it was reported that many users experienced issues with Wolda Technology's smart power strip for aquariums during the National Day holiday. The device malfunctioned, automatically shutting off and displaying closed statuses on multiple sockets, which could not be reopened via the app. Users shared videos showing numerous fish dead due to the incidents.
According to a statement from Wolda, the server system of the smart power strip suffered a malicious hacking attack around 20:30 on September 30, 2026. This attack resulted in some users' devices being remotely disconnected and losing power without cause. Wolda has apologized to all affected users.
The announcement clarified that this incident was due to a malicious cyber attack and not a product or operational quality issue, attributing it to external uncontrollable factors.
Immediately following the incident, the company's technical team worked overnight to investigate, block vulnerabilities, and restore the server, successfully intercepting the attack and returning the system to normal operation.
Wolda also reported that they have contacted law enforcement, preserving all attack logs for evidence, and are pursuing legal action against the malicious attackers. The case has been handed over to judicial police for further processing.
The company stated that it plans to enhance its protective capabilities, optimize local offline protection logic, and prevent remote malicious control, with dedicated personnel monitoring the backend 24 hours a day.
