Hitachi and MCG Form Strategic Partnership for Data Center Solutions
Hitachi and Mission Critical Group (MCG) announced on September 17 that they have signed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic partnership aimed at the joint development and global deployment of data center solutions. This collaboration will focus on expanding Hitachi's lineup of solutions, specifically the HMAX Data Center, to support integrated operations of data center infrastructure.
The demand for data centers is increasing alongside the spread of artificial intelligence, yet long lead times for power equipment supply are becoming bottlenecks in data center construction. To address this, there is a rising need for modular data centers that standardize design, manufacturing, and inspection in factories, thereby reducing on-site construction periods. According to Hitachi's analysis, this market is growing globally at an annual rate of approximately 20 percent.
MCG is a leading provider of integrated modular power equipment for data centers, primarily in North America. Hitachi supplies transmission and distribution equipment, cooling systems, and AI infrastructure for data centers, along with its next-generation solution lineup, HMAX by Hitachi, which includes HMAX Data Center.
The partnership will focus on three main areas of collaboration. First, they will provide integrated power infrastructure from high to medium-low voltage by combining power infrastructure technologies from both Hitachi Energy and MCG to deliver comprehensive infrastructure to data center operators. Second, they will jointly develop enhancements to the HMAX Data Center lineup, incorporating Hitachi's digital technologies such as data collection and AI analysis into MCG's modular power equipment, enabling immediate digital service provision after delivery, along with solutions for power equipment monitoring, predictive maintenance, and energy optimization. Third, they aim to enhance MCG's manufacturing sites through Hitachi Group's digital and automation solutions.
Hitachi's Executive Vice President and CEO of the Strategic SIB Business Unit, Jun Taniguchi, commented that this partnership aims to merge the strengths of both companies to create new value throughout the entire lifecycle of data centers, contributing to the realization of sustainable and resilient social infrastructure supporting the AI era.
