Government24 Experiences Data Breach, Enhances Security with AI
A data breach occurred at Government24, the integrated administrative service portal, prompting the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to enhance security measures utilizing artificial intelligence. Previously, security personnel detected and blocked anomalies, but the new system will have AI automatically identify and block threats before human verification, aiming to increase response speed.
As of September 28, the ministry reported that it has completed measures addressing vulnerabilities related to the data breach that happened last month. The ministry recognized that relying solely on human judgment could lead to delays in identifying and blocking anomalies, which led to the implementation of an AI-based automatic detection system.
The breach, confirmed on August 17, involved unauthorized access to Government24, potentially leaking information that included personal data. Approximately 100 individuals are currently believed to be affected, but specific details regarding the individuals and the number of breaches remain unclear.
The leaked information was not organized data but rather included personal data within memory data, making it difficult to identify individual victims. Although the ministry has received no reports of misuse of personal data so far, it is prepared to accept such cases if they arise.
The ministry stated that it has addressed the vulnerabilities identified after the incident and has blocked further leaks through the same method. It is also developing long-term prevention strategies to avoid similar incidents in the future. Government24 has previously faced sanctions for inadequate personal data protection measures.
