Data Breach Notification Issued by Foundation
A foundation has announced the potential leak of personal information related to employees and business partners following a hacking incident involving a backup server. The exposed data may include resident registration numbers, bank account numbers, salary, and personnel information. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether any data has actually been leaked externally.
On November 2, the foundation posted a notice on its website regarding the potential data breach due to an external service incident. They confirmed that some data stored with a third-party accounting software provider may have been compromised.
The information at risk includes accounting and personnel data from 2016 to 2025, detailing business registration numbers of clients, representative and contact information, bank account numbers of clients and income recipients, as well as employee salary and personnel information. It also contains names, resident registration numbers, and account numbers of individuals who received miscellaneous or business income.
The foundation explained that the incident occurred due to illegal intrusion targeting the backup server of the third-party provider. An investigation revealed that the actual status of data leakage has not been clearly established, and authorities are currently assessing the extent of the potential damage.
The notice indicated that a joint investigation team from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency has been formed to conduct the inquiry. The scale of the affected individuals and specific timing of the breach have not been disclosed. The foundation plans to cooperate with the investigation and will issue a follow-up notice once the extent of the leak is confirmed, along with individual notifications.
