# ShinyHunters hackers claimed breach of FBI systems

The hacking group ShinyHunters reported that it has breached the systems of the FBI and stolen information about several thousand agents and applicants. Cybercriminals stated that they managed to obtain "confidential information about practically all agents of the agency and individuals who applied for jobs at the FBI."

Journalists from 404 Media reviewed samples of the stolen data, which include names, home addresses, and phone numbers of FBI agents and their spouses; the authenticity of part of this information was confirmed by cross-referencing with public records. The hackers claimed that they do not seek any financial gain, they demand that the FBI remove a report that allegedly contains false accusations against the group.

The cybercriminals reportedly breached the Oracle PeopleSoft server, which is used by human resources departments to store personal data of applicants, and then accessed a government cloud storage provided by Amazon, which contained information about current agents and candidates.

As a result of the operation, several terabytes of data were stolen; the hackers did not specify how they would handle this information if the FBI did not remove the mentioned report. The stolen data may pose a serious threat, it could be exploited by foreign intelligence agencies to gain leverage over agency personnel. The hackers also allegedly altered the content of the FBI's website in the jobs section, where a message currently states that it is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance.

This marks the second incident of FBI system breaches this year. Previously, unidentified hackers gained access to one of the agency's systems used for managing real-time communication interception and intelligence collection orders, which could have led to the exposure of surveillance targets.
