# OpenAI unveils login and plugin features at DevDay 2026

OpenAI presented new features for ChatGPT at its DevDay 2026 event, with a specific focus on login capabilities and plugin extensions. The company announced these developments on the 29th, positioning them as the next stage for the platform. Sam Altman, the chief executive officer, separately highlighted the potential of these features on the social media platform X on the 2nd, stating that the login functionality using ChatGPT plugin extensions holds significantly more potential than previously anticipated.

The new feature, named Sign in with ChatGPT, allows users to access external services using their ChatGPT accounts. While the basic mechanism resembles existing social login systems from other major technology companies, the announcement emphasized that ChatGPT subscribers can utilize their AI usage quotas within these external applications. This integration is initially available for sixteen partner services, including Devin, Notion, Vessel, and T3. The system is designed to reduce the need for users to create separate accounts for each service while linking their existing ChatGPT usage to the connected platforms.

Plugin extensions have also undergone significant changes. Previous plugins primarily focused on connecting ChatGPT with external services. The updated system allows developers to build dedicated spaces and interactive panels within ChatGPT that function like standalone applications. Users can now access external service features immediately within the conversation interface without navigating to separate websites or applications. The process for creating, submitting, and discovering these plugins within the directory and chat window has been substantially improved.

In the agent sector, OpenAI introduced Dots, a persistent AI agent system. Each agent is assigned its own cloud computer and browser, enabling it to navigate the web and utilize connected applications. This approach allows agents to autonomously select and use the necessary services or tools for a task, rather than requiring users to manually find and execute specific applications. The system currently supports more than 4,000 connected applications.

TechCrunch analyzed these changes as a direct challenge to the traditional app store model. The publication noted that by becoming a space where apps are discovered, executed, and used, ChatGPT could alter the distribution structures currently managed by Apple and Google. OpenAI has long aimed to transform ChatGPT from a single AI service into a hub for digital activity. Since its initial release in November 2022, the platform has expanded from a conversational AI to include web search, code execution, file processing, and external service connections.

At the DevDay event, attention was also drawn to new products such as GPT-6.1 Sol and Dots. OpenAI stated that it is expanding ChatGPT into a space where humans and agents work together and developers can showcase new services. The company announced that these capabilities will be made available to its 1.2 billion weekly users. The integration of login, plugins, and agents creates a system where users open external services with their ChatGPT account, load apps within the chat window, and agents perform tasks using browsers. It remains uncertain whether this system will replace existing app stores, as OpenAI has not yet introduced a payment or revenue sharing structure.
