# Guardsquare urges comprehensive mobile security overhaul against AI-driven attacks

Recent cyberattacks targeting financial services, fintech, e-commerce, and large platforms have drawn attention to mobile app security. Generative AI and automated tools now accelerate vulnerability discovery, malware transformation, phishing content creation, and mobile app analysis and reverse engineering. In response, Guardsquare, a Belgium-based leader in mobile application protection, presented countermeasures against mobile AI hacking attacks.

Jin Ko Technology's representative Chan Yeon-geun, the Korean distributor of Guardsquare, diagnosed on the 11th that existing server and network-centric security is insufficient. Mobile apps execute outside corporate control after deployment to users' devices. Attackers can decompile apps to analyze source structure and business logic, steal API information and authentication procedures, or modify and tamper with apps. Attacks using rooted or jailbroken terminals, debuggers, hooking tools, and emulators during execution continue to evolve.

Mobile app security must transition from simple obfuscation to a full-cycle system of diagnosis, protection, monitoring, verification, and response, Chan stated. Guardsquare implements this on a single platform.

First, Guardsquare's security test program AppSweep automatically analyzes Android and iOS apps and SDKs, checking vulnerabilities in code, open-source dependencies, data storage, network communication, and encryption implementation. It allows continuous security status checks not only at launch but at every build stage.

DexGuard and iXGuard are code hardening and Runtime application Self-Protection programs. Applied as multiple layers to Android and iOS apps respectively, they make reverse engineering and code modification difficult. They also enable apps to self-detect and respond to runtime threats such as debugging, hooking, rooting, jailbreaking, and integrity compromise.

ThreatCast is a real-time threat monitoring program. It monitors attack attempts and abnormal signs occurring in actual operating environments after app release. Companies can identify which attacks occurred on which app version and device, and reflect the results in subsequent security policies and app updates.

App Attestation verifies the access of genuine and integrity-maintained apps to server APIs. It verifies whether an app accessing the server API is genuine, unmodified, and in a trustworthy state. By blocking or restricting access from unverified apps and bots, scripts, or forged clients, it serves as the final gatekeeper protecting backend systems.

In addition to these four measures, Guardsquare emphasizes professional security engineering capabilities. Because mobile attack technologies continue to evolve, security is not completed merely by introducing solutions. Accordingly, Guardsquare bases new attack technique research and continuous advancement of protection technologies and response policies on a dedicated security research organization and mobile app security engineers. Guardsquare says its greatest competitiveness lies in connecting diagnosis, app protection, threat monitoring, API verification, and professional technical support into one system. CISO and information security leaders should urgently diagnose vulnerabilities of currently running apps, apply security automation based on DexGuard and iXGuard in the CI/CD build process, and establish real-time detection and server access control systems linked with ThreatCast and App Attestation, the company argued.

Chan emphasized that mobile security in the AI era must evolve beyond making attacks difficult. It must develop into 'trust-based security' that continuously verifies threats and blocks modified apps from accessing core enterprise servers.
