# Data Leak Investigation Underway Amid Recent Sales of Illegal Personal Data

The Ministry of Communication and Digital is coordinating with law enforcement to investigate allegations of illegal sales of personal data that have recently gained attention. The Director General of Digital Space Oversight confirmed that the Ministry has also coordinated with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency, which has responsibilities in the field of cybersecurity.

According to explanations from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency, the data leak currently being discussed involves old data that has resurfaced. However, the Ministry continues to pursue investigations and enforcement actions related to this issue.

The authorities are also focusing on websites identified as selling personal data. Actions will be taken against these sites in accordance with their authority, which may include blocking access to sites that violate regulations.

Coordination is necessary because the dissemination and trade of personal data can occur through various digital platforms and channels. Investigations are being conducted to identify the sources of dissemination, the means used, and the parties involved, in accordance with the jurisdiction of each agency.

The Director General urged the public not to disseminate others' personal data. Data that has circulated in the digital space remains personal data and does not automatically become information freely shareable.

Disseminating personal data without a valid basis can lead to severe legal consequences, as outlined in the Law No. 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection. The Ministry views threats to data security as an evolving challenge that crosses national borders. Data previously exposed can reappear through various channels and methods, necessitating collaborative efforts between the government, law enforcement, digital platform providers, and the public.

The threat to data does not recognize position or social status; anyone's personal data can be targeted in cases of leakage or misuse. Therefore, when a system experiences a leak, protection and handling become a shared responsibility among the government, system managers, digital platforms, and all parties with access to that data.
