# Data breach at Revolut exposes 150 GB of data

A data breach has occurred at Revolut, affecting hundreds of customers, with the hacker group ImNotAVillain claiming to have obtained sensitive information. They have established a Data Leak Site on the dark web, announcing the sale of data from 680 Revolut customers.

The hacker group reportedly accessed at least one Italian certified email (PEC) from the local authorities in Reggio Calabria. By impersonating an Italian investigative authority, they convinced Revolut to release requested data through a fraudulent European investigation order. This breach has allegedly allowed the hackers to collect around 147 GB of data linked to the Ministry of the Interior, although initial investigations by the Postal Police have not confirmed any data theft from that department.

Following the data acquisition, ImNotAVillain initiated a countdown on their site, demanding a ransom of 3 million dollars in Monero cryptocurrency, threatening to release the information if their demands were not met. However, when the deadline passed, no action was taken, and the group's site subsequently went offline.

Now, they have reappeared with a new Data Leak Site on the Tor network, offering the stolen data for sale. This includes over 150 GB of Italian information and 85,000 files related to key Italian departments and offices, as evidenced by a screenshot shared by a co-founder of Ransomnews.

The data reportedly includes the 147 GB from the Ministry of the Interior, which the Postal Police have stated were not compromised. Additionally, forensic computer expert Paolo Dal Checco mentioned that the hackers are directly contacting customers to demand money in exchange for the return of their data. They are also advertising the entire stolen archive for approximately 300,000 euros on new Telegram channels, significantly less than the initial ransom demand.
