# Cyber Attack Targets Blood Banks in France

A cyber attack recently targeted several regional blood banks in France, affecting systems that monitor and control cold storage rooms essential for blood preservation. This incident was reported by the French Ministry of Health on November 2, 2026. Fortunately, no harm was done to the blood and blood products stored in these banks, as precautionary measures were taken promptly, ensuring the safety of the blood supply.

The attack compromised some systems responsible for monitoring temperatures in cold storage rooms. The French Blood Establishment (EFS), which manages blood collection, testing, storage, and supply to hospitals, reported that sensors in these systems are designed to alert staff if temperatures exceed set limits. Despite the attack, the ministry confirmed that the safety of blood products remained intact due to the effectiveness of the monitoring and alarm systems.

In light of this cyber incident, the Ministry of Health reassured the public that all blood products are secure. The proactive steps taken by officials helped maintain the safety of the stored blood. Continuous monitoring of the affected centers is ongoing, with the situation reportedly under control as further actions are being cautiously implemented.

This cyber attack on blood banks comes amid a series of similar incidents across Europe, where cold storage systems have been targeted. Just days prior, eight European countries experienced cyber attacks affecting numerous stores, where hackers tampered with systems controlling refrigerator temperatures, leading to significant spoilage of perishable goods. A similar pattern had also been observed in several French supermarkets three weeks earlier.

Investigations into this cyber attack are currently underway by government agencies working to determine how the hackers breached the systems and what specific devices were affected. They are also assessing how to safely restore the impacted systems. As of now, no hacker group has been identified, and there is no information regarding any intent to harm the blood supply. The full scope of the attack will only be clear upon the completion of the investigation.
